Simply put, we believe there is a need for a different sort of public policy education, one that is tailored to today’s reality. Today’s public organisations — and the organisations that deal with them — are bombarded with huge volumes of information and conflicting viewpoints, each with a distinct call to action. Economists will advise whether a policy proposal concept is efficient; lawyers will advise whether it is legal; financiers will advise whether it is affordable; and philosophers will advise whether it is morally correct. However, in order to create ‘good’ policy, policymakers at the mid- or senior-level must comprehend and navigate through these many points of view. This is referred to as the craft of government.

The Master Degree in Public Policyprovides a solid foundation in many important elements of policy making. Since the degree is offered by the Chanakya School of Public Policy (CSPP), we emphasise economics and political science, as well as quantitative methods of analysis. The MPP core curriculum also includes a groundbreaking course on public-sector management and ‘application-focused’ courses at the intersection of cutting-edge academic research and policymaking, demonstrating how the two intersect. Students can then add electives — extra courses — to their schedule.

Our mission is more important than ever: the global economy, which has probably never really recovered from the 2008 crisis and its shackles, is now again under immense strain as a result of the global outbreak of COVID-19. Shifting global fundamentals have resulted in the emergence of a new type of politics in various global regions; forced migration from Latin America to the Mediterranean and beyond; the realities of climate change are wreaking havoc; and new challenges such as automation and labour market changes are only now being fully understood. Policymakers must identify a way forward in order to enhance the society in which we live. The Master Degree in Public Policy programme is a significant new instrument in this endeavour.

The Master of Public Policy is a two-year, full-time programme that is both inter-disciplinary and an applied programme. The programme is intended for recent graduates and professionals with 1-2 years of work experience from any field, including humanities, sciences, engineering, media, law, finance, and others. The programme addresses the requirements of people working, or aspiring to work, in a wide range of professions, including the media, public service, non-governmental organisations, law, advocacy, regulatory affairs, and international business.

The Master of Public Policy (MPP) programme helps the students in understanding how public policies are structurally conceived, negotiated, and implemented. It assists the student in understanding the role of various institutions, both public and private, in policy formulation and policy implementation at various levels. Public policy studies will also assist the student in understanding how the policy framework can lead to indirect benefits/losses and inadvertent consequences at times. MPP will also aid in understanding the concepts of equity, liberty, the rule of law, efficiency, effectiveness, and so on, as well as how they are components of a realistic public policy framework.

The Master of Public Policy (MPP) is a two-year, four-semester, full-time programme with flexible scheduling to accommodate working professionals.

The Master of Public Policy (MPP) is the first of its type in the state of Telangana. The programme is developed by merging the finest of traditional and modern knowledge with a good mix of academics and practice. The programme is designed in cooperation with think-tanks affiliated with India’s premier public policy schools. The CSPP will provide a wealth of practical expertise to policy making in India.

The courses are organised into three categories: foundation, core, and electives. The foundation courses are based on Indic knowledge systems, while the core courses include public policy and governance ideas, theories, and practice. Elective courses are available to help students develop specialised knowledge in a variety of areas of public policy. Along with life transformation classes, this programme includes an internship and a Capstone research project/dissertation.

The programme costs for the courses are listed in the admissions section of the prospectus. Scholarships are awarded to individuals depending on their merit and financial situation.

Core faculty, visiting faculty, and guest faculty will be in charge of the programme. Core faculty are full-time CSPP academics. Visiting faculty are teachers who have expertise in specialised courses. Guest faculty are distinguished individuals who have worked in the fields of public policy and governance. The CSPP fellows and experts will contribute value to the programme.

Internship options will be offered to programme participants depending on their areas of interest.
